well I got a headcanon when I saw the Aogiri kids so I had to -
Imagine the smoll Aogiri children
simply adoring Hinami and Ayato. They view Hinami as their go to big sister –
after all, she’s been in Aogiri for three years and had the time to get to know
them while not on missions. More likely than not these children weren’t raised
with proper care while in Aogiri, and Hinami, seeing they were orphaned and in
the same position as hers did what her mother and Kaneki did for her. She
helped them learn and read them stories, and tried to comfort them to the best
of her ability when they were sad or scared. When it comes to Ayato, they knew
him for a while longer; he was an executive much before Hinami even joined, so
some of them ended up in Aogiri when he was already there. Once, his reputation
scared them – he used be very easy to anger, so most of the time, the children
avoided him (though he was mostly on missions even then, when he was fourteen.)
Most of the time they didn’t meet him, but when the children did see him he
would be very hard to approach to anyway, his resting face being a frown or
scowl. After Hinami joined, since Hinami usually was paired up with him for
missions they started to see him more often, due to Hinami visiting them. He
wasn’t very different in the first year she was there, but he was tolerant, and
slowly mellowed down as time passed. Even though he didn’t really initiate
talks with them, when they were insecure and not sure of their future, like in
large scale Aogiri missions, he made sure to reassure them they’d be fine and
safe. Something along the lines of ‘stop worrying, brats, as if I’ll let
anything get to you.’ And due to it they see him a super cool guy, even if in
the eyes of every other Aogiri member he’s just a strong and stubborn brat
himself. Much afterwards, he even ruffled their hair, and that became a gesture
that calms them. They’ve become more comfortable with him due to all of it.
Now, the kids are not too oblivious, they did see that the changed occurred after
Hinami joined. While they usually don’t particularly say anything about it,
they prefer to meet Hinami and Ayato together; the atmosphere with both of them
around is comfortable for the children, and more than all, gives them a sense of
family that they missed.
