Ayahina fic sometime after the 24th ward battle…

(So uh, I wrote a fic about ayato having concerns about the whole touken and pregnancy thing, but hinami reassures him of his worries. Low key ayahina, but I tried. Hope you enjoy.)

Hinami holds two cups in hand, the strong smell of coffee filling her nostrils as she makes her way to ayato, who continues to sulk on top of a building alone. She takes a seat silently besides him, ayato quickly glancing over to her before setting his eyes back onto whatever he was staring at. Following his gaze, hinami sees kaneki and touka walking side by side, talking with their fingers laced together.

“I made you coffee,” hinami offers, breaking the silence. Ayato takes the cup from her hand a gulps it all down in a matter of seconds. He places down the now empty cup and with a smile, hinami offers him her own coffee.

“Thanks,” he offers her an apologetic look, taking a deep breath as he takes a long sip of the delicious coffee. He seems to ease up slightly.

“What’s wrong?” Hinami asked, but she had some clue as to what the answer was. He shakes his hand, looking down to his lap before bringing the cup back to his lips for another sip. “Are you worried that kaneki won’t be good enough for touka?”

He chokes on his drink, coughing heavily and placing the drink aside. The mere thought of that half assed bastard messing with his sister sickened him to say the least. Of all people, why him. All the while, he knew kaneki would be good for her; he would die protecting his wife, something he was unconditionally grateful for. The bitter memory of half his body on fire and that cold, stoic voice whispering at the back of his mine resurfaces and ayato shivers a little at the reminder of what kaneki was capable of. Ayato couldn’t complain, knowing kaneki could do what he couldn’t and thought that perhaps it was a good thing touka chose that half assed bastard after all.

“No,” ayato said slowly and carefully. “I think he will be good to her. He was there for her when I wasn’t after all.”

“But that was in the past.” Hinami nudges him, trying to brighten his mood. “I think onee chan and onii chan suit each other really well and ayato kun will be an even better uncle.”

Ayato grimaces at the thought. He didn’t even want to consider how touka became pregnant so quickly. At the same time, ayato couldn’t help but grow excited at the thought of living to see his older sister bringing a new life to this world. Even despite the glum situation and circumstances, the baby is in some way another reason to hope for the future.

Then again, anything could go wrong. Could the baby even survive? What happens if the ward is attacked again? What if touka becomes too stressed?

His train of thought is brought to a stop when hinami places her hand gently over his. His cheeks begin to heat up when he looks up to her, only to find her offering an encouraging smile. All pressures of the child washes away with a wave of reassurance.

“Everything will be ok, ayato.” She said, taking her hand away. She changes the subject quickly though, somewhat embarrassed by her own actions. “Being in such a strong relationship must be nice,” hinami glances back down to touka and kaneki.

Ayato presses his lips together, his eyes still locked onto hinami and his fingers twitching towards hers, eager to feel her touch again. He turns his head away when hinami looks back.

“I’m sure you’ll find someone special one day, ayato kun.” She smiles again, but he could sense a slight sadness in her tone. His cheeks grow pink at the single thought that there couldn’t be anyone else as good as her.

He drinks down the rest of the coffee, placing the empty cup besides the other and sighing.

“But you see, hina.” Ayato said. “I don’t think I’ll ever find someone who makes coffee as nice as you do.”

Blushing, she hides her face behind a curtain if hair but he could still see the smile that grew on her small lips. He continued to keep his eyes on her as he thought that if kaneki and touka could find happiness in each other, then perhaps he too could…
