what if they changed it according to how he himself knows how to write his name? now that he’s in a more positive place he managed to advance further and is able to learn like he couldn’t before ;;

I think Ayato would at least have been able to write his name, he’s not completely illiterate since he was reading a book in that flashback and the novel mentions him reading some publications about ghouls or something like that. 

I thought maybe it’s because he tries to be more true to himself in :re so he goes back to the kanji his parents named him because he’s accepted the part of himself he once forced down like his kindness (which Hinami helped him rediscover COUGH COUGH). 

Or maybe it’s because he got super hot like some kind of masterpiece and the kanji of his name is like art person… lmao idk. wtf. 

I agree! Arata used to read him and Touka some books too, he can’t be actually illiterate completely. What I thought is that there is a possible option he learned to write his name in Hiragana when he was little but changed it later on when he got older and learned the proper kanjis ^^

I think I like your version better though, him finally accepting his parents and letting it go sounds like he finally can be at peace with himself.

hina teaching him anything would be adorable honestly ;; like he could have a petty competition with naki about who’s smarter and he’d be like ‘hinami what is this word i need to prove i’m smarter’ with a book in his hand. (extra: the word he pointed at is sudden shower/shuu, the first word kaneki taught her)

i really, really want him to speak about Arata, at the very least. If Axato can finally say he accepts Arata, it’ll help him with accepting kaneki as his brother in law, finally seeing their similarities are not flaws. I wish ayahina would have a long talk about their parents. I think that in the end, hearing all about Ryouko’s sacrifice especially, will make him maybe lean towards thinking his father maybe tried to do the same, although he was severly hurt from their mother’s loss.
